Anthony Steven Merrell (oh-hoh-keh-oh-zhah), 64 years, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma was called home on January 9, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Anthony was born on January 29, 1956 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to the late Robert L. Merrell and the late Lucille (Harvey) Merrell. Anthony made the seventh son out of 13 siblings.
Anthony spent most of his childhood years out in the Indian Village at his Aunt Minnie’s house and at the farm in Hominy. Anthony attended Sequoia Indian Schools where he was involved with sports. After high school, Anthony moved back to Pawhuska, Oklahoma where he met his best friends who became like brothers, Marty and Bruce Hendren and their families. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In July 1978, he married his wife of 42 years, Martha (Mehojah) Merrell. They were blessed with 6 children, Jean and Kilabrew of Oneida; Wisconsin; Lahoma and Phillip of Oneida, Wisconsin; only son, Tony of Oneida, Wisconsin; Aime of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Georgia and Logan of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Mindee and husband Tyrone of Wichita, Kansas. He lived for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Anthony and Martha made their home in Oneida, Wisconsin for many years as he worked at the Radisson Inn as a groundskeeper. Soon after retiring, Anthony and Martha returned back to their home town, Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Where they got to enjoy each other all the way up to the day the Lord called Anthony home.
Anthony is further survived by his two sisters, Francis of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Viola of Tacoma Washington; sister-in-law, Laurie and (Looney); sister-in-law, Margie (Jeff); brother-in-law, Jack (Debbie); brother-in-law, Louis; sister-in-law, Kim, all from Wisconsin.
Anthony is preceded in death by: parents, Robert and Lucille Merrell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Mehojah; brothers, Luther, Harry, T.J., Harvey, Robert and Ben; sisters, Linda, Minnie, Lois, Mary, Georgia and Charles Rector; nephew, Reggie Merrell.
Visitation for Anthony will be 6:00PM-12:00AM, Tuesday, January 12, 2020 at the Wakon Iron Chapel in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Services for Anthony will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Wakon Iron Chapel in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Burial will follow services at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma.
