Ben Prater Obituary Ben Prater 95, of Hominy, Oklahoma passed away September 4, 2008 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ben was born to William Edgar and Nancy May (Youngblood) Prater on March 28, 1913 in Adair, Oklahoma. Ben married Nellie Marie Edwards on April 16, 1941 in Hominy, Oklahoma. Marie preceded him in death March 23, 2006. Ben was a long-time Hominy resident. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Utah in his younger years and then in the oilfield as a driller and pumper until retirement. Ben was in the U.S. Army serving 3½ years overseas. He was a member of the Hominy, First Baptist Church and the Hominy American Legion Post #142. A sister- Pansy Persons of Meridian, Idaho; an aunt- Nell Tilley of Tulsa, Oklahoma and numerous cousins and a great nephew survive Ben. His parents, his wife, one brother and half brother Edgar preceded him in death. Services were Monday, September 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Hominy First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Formby officiating. Organist was Theresa Cowan. Pallbearers were from the Hominy American Legion, James D. Frazier- Post Commander, Dennis Kidder- 1st Vice Commander, David Hinman- 2nd Vice Commander, Vern Cain- Adjutant, Jack Cross- Finance Officer, Charles OLeary- Service Officer, Wendell Graham- Sgt. Of Arms and Fred Prater. Honorary pallbearers were John Zapp and The Blackwell-Frazier American Legion Post #142 Officers and Members. Burial was in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery with military honors. The family entrusted the Powell Funeral Home with the arrangements.
