Bessie Lee Squires, age 69, of Hominy, Oklahoma passed away on October 9, 2013 at her home in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was born February 14, 1944 in Schulter, Oklahoma to Larry and Virginia Lee (Carney) Underwood. She grew up in the Bixby area, but graduated from Prue High School. Bessie married James Oleson on December 3, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She traveled to many places with James who was in the Army. They settled in Oklahoma to raise their children. Bessie worked as a Daycare Operator in Vernon, Texas; and she operated 2 restaurants in Davenport, Oklahoma because she loved cooking. Bessie married Marlin Squires in March 1983. She was foster mother helping raise over 91 children; she touched the lives of many and was the rock and glue that held the family. Bessie was a loving, generous giving wife and mother taking care of others before herself, she was there to lend an ear and just listen always willing to help but never judge. She loved to cook and watch the kids in their various activities. To Bessie you were either called "George", "Fred" or "Stinkerpot". Bessie will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband Marlin Squires of the home, five daughters: Cheryl Thomas and Kevin Surrett of Jones, Oklahoma; Christy Dean and husband Derick of Hominy; Fancy Squires of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Michelle Aquilar and husband Tony of Skiatook; Virginia Squires of Hominy; three sons: James Oleson and wife Glenda of Hominy; Mike Oleson of Skiatook; Wayne Squires of Tulsa; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister: Opal Jeffries; 4 brothers: Clyde Underwood, Dickie Hollis, Doug Hollis and Davy Hollis, 91 foster Children and numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Jake Underwood, Bill Underwood and a sister Beverly Horton. Funeral services for Bessie were held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Kenny Christian officiating. Interment was in the A.J. Powell Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home. Casket Bearers were Clifford Hayes, Wes Watkins, Tony Aquillara, Derick Dean, Jacob Dean, Wayne Squires and Ronnie Underwood. Honorary Casket Bearers were Mike Oleson and Jimmy Oleson. Musical selections for the service were "Go Rest High on That Mountain", "Footprints in The Sand" and "I Believe".
