Charles Henry Chambers

Charles Chambers, 91 years, of Terlton, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his residence in Terlton, Oklahoma. 

Charles was born in Hominy, Oklahoma to Fred Whiteman and Mary Lorraine Chambers. 

Charles and his family struck out on the Grapes of Wrath when he was just 6 years old. Upon their return to Oklahoma the family settled at Hominy Falls. As a young boy and teenager, Charles worked as a ranch hand for the Drummond Ranch. At the age of 17 he had someone forge his mothers' signature to join the United States Army. He was stationed in Alaska where he worked as a firefighter. After returning home from the service he married Ruth Cross, they started a small farm and Charles studied animal husbandry for 3 years. He had 3 daughters who were the center of his life and he enjoyed coaching his girls' sports and taking his family on trips around this country he loved. After spending some time drilling water wells in Australia, he returned to Oklahoma where he became a respected oilman and rancher. He was a family man who loved us all. 

Charles is survived by: wife, Nita Gay; daughters, Patricia Sunday and husband Dennis of Terlton; Cathy Downey and Brenda Emery of Collinsville; step-children, Sally, James, Sandra, John, Sara and Andy; sisters, Margarete, Nadine, Ruth, Noma, Mary, Donna; grandchildren, Denny, Tina, Denise, Patricia, Richelle, Trey, Charlie; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Charles will be from 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service for Charles will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery located in Hominy, Oklahoma with grandson, Charles Downing officiating. Pallbearers will be: Denny Sunday, J.D. Downey, Terry Priebe, James Streck, John Streck, Andy Means. Honorary bearers will be: Charles H. Downey.
