Edward Eli Red Eagle Sr., 45 years old, passed from this life on Friday, November 25, 2022, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by his family.
Born on January 27, 1977, in Claremore, Oklahoma, Eli was the only son of Eddie Jr and Mattie Mae Red Eagle. Eli was named Tah-Wah—Gka-Keh “Town Maker” in the Eagle Clan by Ed Sr. He has two older sisters, Jeanna and Christy.
During his early life, Eli’s family lived in Tulsa throughout his elementary school years. They moved to Barnsdall where Eli attended Barnsdall High School and was an All-Star in football. Eli was also an honorable mention in All State in football. Eli had the opportunity to play football in Australia in the “Down Under Bowl.” He was able to travel to Australia by way of Hawaii and enjoyed every moment of that trip. Eli was also involved in basketball, track, power lifting and went to “Boys State.” Aside from sports, Eli was a skateboarder and loved taking risks. He once skateboarded off the roof of his family’s home. His father watched as he flew off the roof, landed, and then got back up to do it over again. Eli graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1996. Upon graduation, Eli continued his football career at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas.
Eli grew up alongside the love of his life, Gina. They knew each other as children, and they became friends as teenagers. They married on March 20, 1999. Their love grew to include their three children Edward Eli Jr, Fiona and Liam. Eli was a great dad; he would take his kids out for runs and always the loudest at their games. Every year, he took his daughter to the Father-Daughter Dance. He raised his children to know their Wahzhazhe ways, and he taught his sons how to be a good man.
Eli worked for the Osage Gaming Industry for 18 years before moving to the Osage Tribal Administration. He worked there helping people in need, which was his whole heart. Eli loved helping people find solutions for their lives. Eli was a person who loved standing up for special needs people. Through the years Eli was very involved with Osage Inlonshka. The first position Eli held was Water Boy. He became Drum Keeper in 1999 and held that position until 2001. He became Whip Man for George Stabler Jr. and Berbon K. Hamilton. The last position he held was Committee Man for Cole Burris. Eli was a strength for his tribe and family. He was vision focused and strong willed. People always felt safe when he was around.
Eli greatly enjoyed cooking. He loved sharing recipes with his family, and he would always make his mom’s ham recipe for every holiday. Eli also had a love and appreciation for Asian food and culture, especially sushi. From the time he was a little boy, Eli loved Star Wars. His favorite film was Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. He loved watching the Denver Broncos with his babe. Eli was known to always have some fresh kicks. He loved getting new Nikes. Eli’s other love was music. House music and alternative rock were his genres. He loved bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Deadmau5, Deftones and the Misfits. He shared his first concert experience with his son, Eli Jr, at a Misfits show.
Eli was survived by his wife, Gina and three children: Edward Eli Red Eagle, Jr., Fiona Red Eagle and Liam Red Eagle. His parents; Ed Jr and Mattie Red Eagle; two sisters, Jeanna and Christy Red Eagle. Numerous nieces, nephews and a great nephew. He is preceded in death by his grandparents.
Rosary will be conducted by Father Emmanuel at 7pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Wakon Iron Chapel. Traditional singing will follow the rosary. Services for Eli will be Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Traditional services will be at 8:00am at Wakon Iron Chapel and will be conducted by Johnny Red Eagle. Followed by a 10:00am Catholic service at Immaculate Conception Church in Pawhuska. Interment will be at the Red Eagle Cemetery. A traditional Osage meal will follow at the Hominy Community Building in Hominy, Oklahoma. Everyone is
