James Edward Fields passed from this life and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 9, 2013 surrounded by his family. Jimmy as he was known by family and friends was born on June 10, 1940 in Browning, Montana to Arthur Fields and Ahnawake Buchanan Fields. He grew up in Pawnee graduating from Pawnee High School with the Class of 1958. He attended Wichita State University and graduated from Oklahoma Central University in 1966. Jim had a thirty-seven year career with the Federal Government working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring in 2003. He served as Agency Superintendent either in an acting or full time capacity at the Miami Agency, Wewoka Agency, Osage Agency, and as Regional Director at the Muskogee Area Regional Office. He thoroughly enjoyed performing these duties as his desire and goal was always for the betterment of Indian people. Jim also served in the United States Army National Guard, retiring at the rank of Captain. Most recently Jim had the honor and privilege of serving as Council Member of the Pawnee Tribal Council, a duty he didn’t take lightly as his desire was always to make a difference for the advancement of his beloved Pawnee Nation. A Christian by faith, Jim most recently was a member of the Christie Baptist Church where he had the privilege of occasionally filling the pulpit and sharing God’s Word. One of his favorite Bible Verses is Proverbs 3:5-6 and he claimed that promise daily. Jimmy is survived by: Wife:Lisa Daughter:Suzanne Fields Berry & her husband, Jon, Springdale, Arkansas Sons:Jay Christopher Fields & his wife, Tishia, Tahlequah, Oklahoma Michael James Edward Fields, Tahlequah, Oklahoma Brothers:Richard Fields, Wagner, Oklahoma Harrison Fields & his wife, Marie, Pawnee, Oklahoma Sister-in-law:Minnie Fields, Pawnee, Oklahoma Stepchildren:Gina Salazar, Stilwell, Oklahoma Jeff Salazar & his wife, Shannon, Stilwell, Oklahoma He was also known as Grandpa to eleven grandchildren Plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. Jim was preceded to heaven by his parents; sister, Eva Fields Nordwall; brothers, Arthur and Raymond C. Fields; daughter, Eva Fields; and son, James E. Fields, Jr. Wake services will be held Sunday and Monday evenings with life celebration services scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Pawnee Nation Multi-Purpose Complex, Pawnee, Oklahoma., with Rev. Clarence Yarholar officiating. Interment will be approximately at 1:00 p.m., at Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma
