Joel Braden Miller went to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the age of 32, in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his family.
Joel was born on February 17, 1987 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to proud parents, Don and Cindy Miller and loving brother Kyle.
Joel had an adventurous spirit from an early age and was involved in everything he could be. From riding across the state with Don on the back of a tandem during freewheel for years, to trying baseball for a season and quickly realizing that sport was too slow for him.
Then Joel found soccer and it was love at first kick. He continued to play for years until he discovered his second love- Hominy Buck Football, where he earned the nickname “Shiny Shoes”.
If you couldn’t find Joel or his parents on the game field, kicking footballs until after dark; then you would probably find them at one of the area lakes-boating, jet skiing, knee boarding, tubing, water skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, and riding four wheelers and anything outside.
During his time as a Hominy Buck, Joel was member of the State Championship Football team, the Pride of Hominy State Championship Band, and went all the way to the State Championship Tournament with the tennis team.
After graduation he went on to play for the NSU Redmen/Riverhawks football team, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
This led to Joel’s love of all outdoor activities. He enjoyed vacations, with the whole family, all across the country-whether they were snow skiing, hiking at Yellowstone, and seeing Mt. Rushmore and Crazyhorse, or visiting old Mexico, he loved to travel and continued to do so as an adult.
After college he went to work to fund his love of the outdoors and gym memberships. From travelling to Colorado to go white water rafting and hiking the mountains with his cousin Tracy, to driving to multiple states to compete in extreme obstacle courses, Joel was living life full throttle.
He always had his next big adventure planned, most times before the current one ended.
If he wasn’t working or outdoors then you would find him spending time with his family. He loved spending time at the pool with his niece and nephews, fishing with his brother, playing piano with his niece, and helping coach his nephews’ soccer team and he never got too far from his dogs Gracie and Chico.
All of this while attending two churches and serving as a door greeter.
Joel is survived by his parents Don and Cindy Miller of Skiatook, originally from Hominy, Oklahoma; older brother Kyle Miller and wife Nicki, niece Ryleigh Miller, nephew Keagon Miller, and nephew on the way, all of Skiatook, Oklahoma; maternal grandmother, Barbara Carr of Cleveland, Oklahoma. Along with many aunts and uncles, a multitude of cousins, and a close friend Mary Martin.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Doyle and Darlene Miller of Hominy; Uncle Allen Miller also of Hominy and maternal grandfather Ralph Carr of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
