Juanita Marie (Carter) Eddings
Juanita Marie Carter Eddings, 69 years, of Hominy, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Juanita was born at the Hominy City Hospital on May 29, 1948, to Emory W. and Bonnie (Tyler) Carter. She graduated as Valedictorian, from Hominy High School in 1966.
On August 26, 1966, she married John at the First United Methodist Church in Hominy. After being married for three years, their son Keith was born. The next day John graduated from Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy, and two days later, they moved to Alva, OK, where they made their home for the next nine years. While living in Alva, their daughter, Janice was born in 1973. Juanita and John both received their Bachelor's Degree from North Western Oklahoma State University in Alva, and Juanita went on to finish her Master's Degree in May of 1978. They moved back to Hominy in 1978, where John stayed with the Highway Patrol, until 1997, and she taught at Hominy Schools for 25 years, spending 16 years teaching 5th grade, three years at the Middle School teaching Special Ed., three years at the High School teaching Special Ed., and three years as the Special Education Director. She retired from Hominy Public Schools in 2003.
Juanita loved reading, and it was one of her favorite activities. Juanita and John spent many years traveling in their motorhome. She loved her Grandchildren, and was extremely proud of them. She had fun shopping for the girls who shared her love of clothes and makeup. John, her children, and grandchildren meant the world to her. She enjoyed fixing family dinners, and setting a pretty table.
She is survived by her husband, John of Hominy, two children, John Keith Eddings, of Owasso, Janice Kay Hand, and husband Brad of Guthrie, OK, and four Grandchildren, Jared Hand, Logan Hand, Courtney Eddings and Paige Eddings.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, and baby sister Judy Faye.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 16th at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Carl Brown officiating, and Sam Garner reading the eulogy. Pallbearers will be Wayne Eddings, Steve Gibson, Jared Hand, Logan Hand, Flynn McGee, and David McGee. Musical selections are "Amazing Grace," "I Can Only Imagine," and "Ashokan Farewell." Burial will be a private family service at AJ Powell Memorial Cemetery, and there will be a lunch held at the First United Methodist Church in Hominy after the service.
