M. Alene Long Obituary Alene (Baker) Long, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Frances Streitel Senior Care Center in Collinsville, Oklahoma. Alene was born November 28, 1922 to D. and Venia (Lay) Baker in Pulara, Oklahoma; Pulara is a small community near Prue and Cleveland. Alene went to school in Cleveland and Wildhorse, graduating from Wildhorse Public Schools in 1941. It was at Wildhorse where Alene met M.E. Babe Long and on May 28, 1943 she married Babe in St. Louis, Missouri, where Babe was stationed in the Air Force. After Alene finished school she went to Beauty College in Tulsa. She worked in Beauty field until the war, and then she went to work at Douglas Air Craft until the war was over. They moved to Hominy and she worked for the Hominy Nursing Home, and then went to Nursing School, and then back to Hominy as Nursing Supervisor. She continued her education by going to school to be an Administrator in Norman, Oklahoma, and worked at the Barnsdall Nursing Home as the Administrator for 8 years. Alene retired in 1980, but she went to work in the Medical Department at Conners Correctional Center for 2 years, and then retired again to enjoy her grandchildren. She was a longtime area resident, except for a few years in West Texas. Due to health reasons Alene was unable to attend church with Babe; but they had church in their home. Alene is survived by her husband of the home- M.E. Babe Long; one son: Merle Long and wife Barbara of Wynona, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Tara Sanders and husband Wade of Hanover, Maryland, J.D. Jones and wife Hillary of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Candace Moles and husband Billy of Barnsdall, Oklahoma; seven great grandchildren: Kate, Jack, Norah, Skylar, Olyvia, Heath and Audrey. Alene was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Homer, Troy, Dugan and Ancil; three sisters: Lela, Una and Yulee; one grandson: Derek Long and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral Services for Alene were Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Antioch Christian Fellowship Church, Wynona, Oklahoma with Pastors Wayne Brown and Phil Clements officiating. Taped music was Go Rest High on That Mountain and Theres Something About That Name. Casket Bearers were: Jerry Ballard, Greg Long, Larry Howell, Stu Henderson, Wade Sanders and Billy Moles. Interment was in the A.J. Powell Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Hominy, Oklahoma.
