Mary Frances Clark Sawyer was born to Walker Fredrick and Mary Elizabeth Ittner Clark in Glencoe, Oklahoma on September 2, 1924. She passed from this life on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma having reached the age of 89 years, and 23 days. Her childhood was spent in Glencoe, where she attended Glencoe Public Schools, and graduating with the Class of 1941. During and following World War II she worked in the Oklahoma City offices of Armour & Company Meat Packers and also at the offices of Safeway Stores. She married Clarence Dowler in Oklahoma City on November 22, 1944 and they had twin daughters, one who died at birth. The remaining daughter, Shirley, made her home with Orvil Sawyer and Mary following their marriage in Pawnee Oklahoma on January 26, 1953. Orvil brought two children to the marriage, Eddie and Lynne, who Mary loved and considered her own. Orvil and Mary owned and operated Sawyer Grocery Store in Glencoe for many years. Mary was an active member of the Glencoe United Methodist Church, where she taught the kindergarten class for over 28 years. She was also active in the United Methodist Women organization, and had served as communion steward for over 50 years. She was active in PTA and the Glencoe Alumni Association, holding offices in each and also belonged to the Rambo Rustler’s Club and the Worthwhile Club. She enjoyed Square Dancing and bowling with her husband in earlier years. In later years she loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren around her, and considered the time she spent with them a special gift from God. Mary is survived by: Son:Eddie Sawyer & his wife, Loretta, Westwego, Louisiana Daughter:Lynne Campbell & her husband, Dennis, Enid, Oklahoma Granddaughters:Cindy Beyer & her husband, Damon, Katy, Texas Pam Ryan & her husband, Bill, Champaign, Illinois Anita Luetkemeyer & her husband, Mark, Enid, Oklahoma Mona Campbell, Ft. Worth Texas Kimberly Keeton, Perry, Oklahoma Great Grandchildren:Anna Beyer, Drew Beyer, Maggie Kaufman, Nancy Campbell, Russell Andrew, Jonathan Allameh, Kali Crow and Will Ryan Sister:Ethel Mae Adkison, Glencoe, Oklahoma Brothers:Marion Clark and Fred Clark, both of Glencoe, Oklahoma Plus numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Orvil; twin daughters, Carol Jean Dowler and Shirley Ann Dowler; her parents, and her brother, Leonard Clark. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Glencoe United Methodist Church, Glencoe, Oklahoma with Rev. Ralph Wangler officiating. Interment will be at Glencoe Cemetery, Glencoe, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Glencoe United Methodist Church, P O Box 30, Glencoe, Oklahoma, 74032.
