Norman Francis Rice Sr

Norman Francis Rice Sr. was born on March 16, 1936 in Pawnee Oklahoma to Charles Rice and Frieda Riding In Rice. He passed from this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his home in Tecumseh Oklahoma having reached the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 11 days. He graduated from Pawnee Indian School, and then attended Bacone College, getting his Associates Degree and then enlisted into the United States Air Force. Then he returned home where he met his wife of forty-seven years, Justine R. Goodchief. They moved to Topeka Kansas where he worked as a carpenter for years in the union before becoming self-employed then they moved back to Pawnee, and eventually moved to Tecumseh Oklahoma. Justine preceded him in death on February 3, 2006. Norman is survived by his daughter, Letha D. Goodchief of the home in Tecumseh; daughter, Norma Battice and sons, Jarrod Leader and Jonathan M. Rice of the home in Tecumseh, and great granddaughter Acy Justine Marie Rice of Tahlequah; son, David C. Rice, and granddaughters, Kasey N. Rice and Daley D. Rice of Shawnee; grandsons, Charles Alexander and children of Ponca City; and Tyler Jones of Seminole; son, Norman F. Rice Jr. and Gwen Rice, granddaughter, Gabrielle L. Rice, and grandson, Norman F. Rice III of Tecumseh. Elizabeth R. Rice and her children; brother, Ronald and Minnie Rice of Pawnee; and one sister, Charlene Horsechief of Topeka Kansas; sister-in-law, Irene R. Rice of Topeka Kansas, plus numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, other relatives, and many friends. Besides his wife, Justine, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frieda Rice; and his brothers, Donald E. Rice, Mitchell L. Rice, Merle Rice, and Prentiss “Joe” Rice Sr. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Pawnee Nation Roam Chief Event Center, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
