Raymond Edward Young

Raymond Edward Young was born on October 18, 1930 in Avery, Oklahoma to Rev. Waldo Young and Nellie McDowell Young. He passed from this life on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Southern Oaks Care Center, Pawnee, Oklahoma, having reached the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 4 days. He graduated from Fairfax High School with the Class of 1950. After graduating he enlisted in the National Guard of Oklahoma and served from 1950 until 1952. He served in the Korean War, and earned his Honorable Discharge on June 26, 1952. He married Norma Jean McKill on December 6, 1952 in the Blackburn Baptist Church, Blackburn Oklahoma, and they were married by Raymond’s father, Rev. Waldo Young. They would have been married for 62 years on December 6, 2014. He enjoyed living on his farm and raising cattle, and has served as Deacon of the Blackburn Baptist Church. Raymond worked in the Pawnee County Assessor’s Office for two years, and then worked as Pawnee County Clerk for Pawnee County for twenty years, until his retirement on January 31, 1990. He has also served on the Pawnee County Excise Board for several years. Raymond said at his retirement party, “Now, I’m going to be on the farm taking care of the cattle. fixing fences, and I’m going to take a vacation once in a while.” Raymond is survived by his wife, Norma Young, Blackburn; son, Ronnie Young and his wife, Valerie, Pawnee; daughter, Janice Ward and her husband, Tommy, Blackburn; 4 Grandsons, Joseph Ward, Blackburn; Greg Young, Oklahoma City; Adam Young and his wife, Shana, Austin, Texas; and Allan Young and his wife, Katherine, Ponca City; Great Grandson, Hudson Young, Ponca City; Great Granddaughter, Hallie Young, Ponca City; plus several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Waldo and Nellie Young; sister, Syrena Wills, and his grandparents. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Blackburn, Oklahoma, with Rev. Allison Dickey officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Pawnee.
