Riley wad born May 5, 1039 to Elvin and Winifred (Baughman) McElroy in Harrison, Arkansas. Most of Riley's life was spent in three towns. His hometown of Harrison, Arkansas, until 1960, then Prue, Oklahoma from 1961 to 1990; and then rest of his life in Claremore until his death. Riley married Mary Blow on August 19, 1962; and had three children. He started welding at Trinity Steel in Tulsa as a young man, and then later owned and operated a store in Prue that was a combination of groceries, service station and bait shop. He received numerous awards for safety; often receiving the Oklahoma State driver of the month and/or year. He also twice received the Million Mile Accident Free award from the Department of Transportation in Washington DC, once through Triad. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, rodeo events, and especially International Cavalcade Round Up Events. He also enjoyed cards (rummy & pitch) and dominos; and an avid reader. Riley was a happy-go-lucky, carefree guy who was friendly to all people. He loved his family, and was a great supporter of all his grandchildren's event. He was such a supporter of kids that many children (and adults) called him Paw-paw in Prue and Owasso. One possibly unknown fact about him; he was the first Boy Scout Leader in Prue. Riley was baptized in the spring of 1962 at the Crusader's Baptist Church in Tulsa. Later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Prue, and taught a young boy's Sunday School Class. Riley is survived by his children: Fonda Gale Middlebrook and husband Tom of Hominy; Nealia Denise Combs and husband Monroe of Claremore and Joshua Riley McElroy of Claremore.
