Robert James LittleSun was born on October 16, 1932 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to James LittleSun and Lucy Morgan LittleSun. He passed from this life on Friday, August 17, 2012 in Cushing Regional Hospital, Cushing, Oklahoma having reached the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 1 day. He was a Full Blood Pawnee, a member of the Kitkehahki Band, and was affiliated with the Baptist Church and the Native American Church. He married Zella Hand on June 29, 1973, and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2001. He served in the United States Army as PFC E3 stationed at Camp Chaffee and Fort Bliss Texas from 1953 to 1955. He was an avid champion bass fisherman in military circuits, and national tournaments. He retired as Director of the drug and alcohol program for United Community Action Program, after serving thirty-five years, and contributed twenty years with the Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo. He also ran the Federation Youth Boxing Program for twelve years in Pawnee. Robert is survived by: Daughters:Denise Miller, Pawnee, Oklahoma Betty Van Hoesen & her husband Mike, Ponca City, Oklahoma Stepchildren:Leslie Rice, Pawnee, Oklahoma John Eppler, Pawnee, Oklahoma Tom Eppler, Alaska Brother:James LittleSun, Edmond, Oklahoma Grandchildren:Marlin Miller, Harley Miller, Joe Chapman, Stephen Wright, Tyler GoodBear, Cheyenne GoodBear, Emily Cairns, Myra Eppler, Ted Rice and Jacob Rice. Plus a number of other relatives, and many friends. Besides his wife, Zella, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Debbie Wright, and Tammy Cairns; grandsons, Zachary Rice and Ben Josef Miller; parents, James and Lucy LittleSun; four brothers, George, Thomas Lee, Morgan LittleSun Sr., and William “Bill” LittleSun; and two sisters, Elaine SpottedBear and Colleen Hendricks. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Pawnee Nation Roam Chief Event Center, Pawnee, Oklahoma, with Bro. Wendall Martin and Morgan LittleSun Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Veterans Section of Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
