Robert L. “Larry” Yates was born on November 3, 1941 in Kayford, West Virginia to James Robert Yates and Virginia Katheryn Holbrook Yates. He passed from this life on Friday, December 19, 2014 in Midwest City, Oklahoma having reached the age of 73 years, 1 month and 16 days. He married Frances Kay Yates on December 31, 1963 in Heavener, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Pawnee after his retirement from the United States Army in 1979. He was a member and deacon of the Pawnee First Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Lions Club and VFW in Pawnee. Larry went to be with Jesus whom he loved and served well. He loved his wife immeasurably, he loved his family completely, he loved Jesus with abandon, and he served others and his country whenever he was called. His love will continue through those he touched. Larry is survived by his wife, Kay Yates, Pawnee; two daughters, Laura Yates, Oklahoma City; and Teressa Bruce and her husband, Mike, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two grandchildren, Kelsey Bruce and Eli Bruce, Tuscaloosa; and eight brothers and sisters, Lavera Gibson, Athens, Georgia; Carol Boyd, Marsha Dudley, Barbara Boatwright, Bruce Yates, Russell Yates, Aloah Yates, Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Archie Yates, San Diego, California; plus a number of other relatives, and many friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Yates; and his sister, Patty Gibson of West Virginia. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Pawnee, Oklahoma, with Rev. John Coker and Rev. Chan Ray officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Ralston, Oklahoma
