Sharlett Ann Spurgeon Gurganus, 74 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at her home in Hominy. She was a lifelong Osage County, Oklahoma resident.
Sharlett was born in Hominy, Oklahoma on August 6, 1942 to Clarence and Henrietta (Lack) Whisenant. She graduated from the Mound Valley School in 1960. In August of 1961, she married Larry Edward Spurgeon and they made their home for a short time in California. In 1966, they were back in Hominy. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Hominy Hospital and Bones Tool Company. In the early 1990s, Sharlett married Harvey Gurganus. Sharlett loved her cattle, "was a cowgirl" and also loved horse riding in earlier years.
Sharlett is survived by 3 children: William Charles Spurgeon and his wife, Tami, of Hominy, OK, Rita Kaye Mitchell and her husband, Harry, of Hominy, OK, and Amy Gilpatrick of Oklahoma City, OK; 7 grandchildren: Jared Spurgeon and his wife, Sarah of Skiatook, OK, Mallory Marshall and her husband, Justin, of Skiatook, OK, Sheena Nickerson and her husband, Eddie, of Cleveland, OK, Stephen Spurgeon and his wife, Courtney, of Prue, OK, Kylie Spurgeon of Dallas, TX, Trent Spurgeon of Austin, TX and Preston Gilpatrick of Oklahoma City, OK; 9 great-grandchildren: Presley & Cameron Spurgeon, William, Derrick & Madelyn Marshall, Dylan & Dustin Nickerson and Danica & Ella Spurgeon; her daughter-in-law, Valerie Spurgeon and her brother, William Wisenant of Hominy.
Sharlett is preceded in death by: her parents, her son, Lindy, and both of her husbands.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma with the Pastor Wayne Brown officiating. Pallbearers were: Jared Spurgeon, Trent Spurgeon, Stephen Spurgeon, Eddie Nickerson, Dylan Nickerson, Dustin Nickerson, Justin Marshall and Preston Gilpatrick. Frank Hudson was vocalist with the selection being; "Amazing Grace". Burial will follow the services.
