Steven Carter

Steven Louis Carter was born on December 31, 1954, in Hobbs, New Mexico to Louis Elvin and Ruth Juanita (Clapper) Carter. At five years old his family relocated to the Hominy area. Steven grew up going to Hominy Schools and was also involved in Rodeo. He loved team roping and calf roping. He graduated from high school in 1973. Steven completed his education by attending OSU Tech Okmulgee, he received an associate’s degree in leather work, making shoes, boots and saddles.

Steven had his own saddle shop on Main Street for a few years before entering law enforcement. He worked for the Wynona Police Department then for the Osage County Sheriff’s office. Steven then went to work at Whirlpool where he retired in 2016.

Steven met Kimberly Carroll after his brother told him about her. They spent the last 39 years together; they got married October 24, 2008, in Miami, Oklahoma. Steve and Kim went on cattle drives in Western Oklahoma for 10 to 15 years. They loved camping and trail riding. Steve never lost his love for rodeos. He was also a lifetime member of AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association). He loved working with leather and being with his horses.

Steve lived to take care of his animals, family and his little old ladies. He was not a big social person but had quite the ornery streak. He loved watching old westerns.

Steven passed from this life on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Steven Carter is survived by his wife Kimberly Carter; his daughter Karen Worley and husband Robin; his grandchildren Kayla Martin and husband Mitchell and Michael Cronister; great grandchildren Odin Martin; four God daughters Rainey Dobbs, Chelsea Gilley, Rebecca Box and Corey Box; two sisters Janie Varnell and Mary Lou Carter; one brother Keith Carter and wife Carla; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Juanita Carter; brother William Carter; brother-in-law Roy Varnell.

Funeral service for Steven Carter will be Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Dusty Giles officiating. Final resting place will be done later at A J Powell Memorial Cemetery.
