Velma "Helen" (Horton) Gore Obituary The family of Velma "Helen" (Horton) Gore is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in Brevard, North Carolina, at the age or 84. She was born November 28, 1926 to Willis Jack and Esther Naomi (Burgess) Horton in Prue, Oklahoma. Helen and Frederick Edwin Gore were married July 19, 1949 in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was a member of Hwy. 29 Church of Christ in Williamston, South Carolina. While Helen was known as a self-educated woman who excelled at art, needlecrafts, sewing and essentially everything she chose to undertake, she will best be remembered for her loving heart, her dedication to her family and friends and her unceasing devotion to God. Helen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frederick Edwin Gore; by her children- Diana Lee Gore Middleton and husband Carl Gary of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Charles Frederick Gore and wife Suzanne of Brevard, North Carolina; by her grandchildren- Carl J. Middleton, Parker Middleton, Larissa Gore, Fred Gore and wife Kristie, Josiah Gore and wife Kate, Sam Patrick and husband Jeremy; and by her great grandchildren, Annie and Jacob. She is also survived by three sisters- Lavaughn Knight of Del City, Oklahoma, Gladys Hall of Wynona, Oklahoma and Alma Slane of Riverton, Wyoming; and two brothers- Kenneth Horton of Hominy, Oklahoma and Mark Horton of Wynona, Oklahoma. A funeral service will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Hominy, Oklahoma, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2011, preceded by visitation at 1:00 p.m. (www.powellfuneralservice.com) In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association of South Carolina (4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621).
