Virginia Ruth Cross Virginia Ruth Cross, 93, longtime resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on November 12, 2014 at Heartsworth Center for Nursing in Vinita, Oklahoma. Virginia was born on December 2, 1920 in Ramona, Oklahoma to James and Hattie (Holder) Stubblefield. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1938, and that same school year she was the Tigers Football Queen. After graduating from high school, she went to Beautician School and worked as a Beauty Operator for a short time. On August 25, 1942 she married Curtis Cross. Afterwards, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Pioneer Store in Hominy for 60 years. On Fridays she also worked at the Hominy Sale Barn. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Choir, singing groups and ladies' groups. She also was a Buck Booster and Buck Band Booster member, a Brownie and Girl Scouts Troop leader, and an officer in Parents' Group and Hominy Senior Citizens. Virginia is survived by: her daughter, Peggy Williams and husband L.P. of Vinita, OK; 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia is preceded in death by: her husband, Curtis, who died on July 16, 1996; her son, John Cross, her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Walker; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Hominy, Oklahoma, with the Pastor Mark Formby officiating. Vocalists are David Gritts and Gerry Lay, with Melvina Prather as Pianist. Pallbearers will be Shane Cross, Kelly Cross, Matt Williams, Jeff Williams, David Gritts and Cha Fairweather. Burial will follow at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home in Hominy, Oklahoma. powellfuneralservice.com
