Vivian Ellen Blue

Vivian Ellen (Pope) Blue was born August 5, 1953, in Hominy, Oklahoma to Lewis F and Amia E Pope. She grew up here in Hominy and graduated from Hominy High School in 1971, where she was active in FHA, Speech, Vocal, Music and the Pep Club. Vivian loved horses. She was involved in the rodeo circuit where she ran the barrels and pole racing on her horse, “Thunder Bolt.”

Vivian went on to college at Tulsa University where she studied nursing, but quickly found out she did not like blood. She worked at different local cafes and at Munsingwear. Vivian bought a 1966 GTO which she loved.

Vivian married Jim Kennick, who was a coal miner, so she was on the road traveling to many different locations for his work. While living in Colorado, Vivian and Jim started a family. Her children were her life. She loved taking them fishing the stream of Colorado or exploring the riverbeds with the kids looking for rocks and other items. After ten years they moved to Utah and California. Vivian loved taking her kids to the beach. She enjoyed being around the water. She really liked the Roy Rogers Museum and the Calico Ghost Town. In general, Vivian loved taking her kids to all these special places. She made Black Cat Bombs and would set them off in the driveway. On WWF nights, you better stay out of her way, especially when Bret “The Hitman” Hart came out, her arms would start flying all over.

Eventually Vivian made her way back to Hominy where she met Carl Blue and they were married on August 9, 1992, at the Assembly of God in Hominy, Oklahoma. It was hard to keep her in one place, her and Carl lived in Texas, Louisiana, Wyoming, Montana and right back here to Hominy.

Vivian loved being with her children and her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, and everything was made from scratch. Her pies were incredible, it was hard not to attack them once they were done, but Vivian made everyone wait for the right time. Red Velvet Cupcakes were another favorite of the families. Then there was her homemade cake and icing. Vivian loved the holidays and decorating for everyone. Every holiday had its special food that she would cook for everyone.

Vivian Ellen (Pope) Blue passed away on Sunday Evening, August 27, 2023, at the Cleveland Hospital. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Vivian is survived by husband, Carl Blue; children Lewis Blue, Jackie (Clifford) Hayes, Josh (Kara) Kennick, Johney Joe (Ashley) Kennick, Jennifer Kennick, and Jessica Kennick; eleven grandchildren Tommy, Cliffy (Taryn), Sadie (Jason), Tristan, Vanessa, Calvin, Jason, Olivia, Brooklynn, Keydon (Sage), Landon (Kristie); two great grand children Blaire and Zoey; brother in law Eddie Waller; niece Crystal (Benji) Brown, Cami, and TJ Long.
