Wallace Martin Wilcox

Wallace Martin Wilcox, 87, passed from this life on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Wallace Wilcox was born September 10, 1935, in Hominy, Oklahoma to Clay and Ethel Wilcox. He grew up with two brothers and three sisters. Wallace spent a couple of years in high school before joining the United States Marine Corps September 23, 1954. While in the Marines he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Ribbon. Wallace spent four years in active duty.

After the military Wallace got married and had three children, two girls and a boy. He loved his family. Wallace found a career working for the Denver Water Department. His job was to live at the Denver Water Supply Reservoirs to monitor the water flow and quality. With his military voice he would make sure those sneaking in for recreation hastily found their way back out, so that the water quality for Denver was maintained. He spent time in Dillon Colorado when that reservoir was being flooded, then up in Boulder Canyon at Gross Reservoir and retiring from Ralston Reservoir between Golden and Boulder in 1991. Upon retiring he made his way back to Hominy, Oklahoma where he stayed until moving into Baptist Village in Cleveland.

Wallace was a tough man and did not talk much. He loved his children, and had a fun side, but also an unyielding strict side. As part of the fun, he would make things like homemade stilts or rubber band guns. He bought some used ice skates and took the kids to a small pond to skate on. They all got the opportunity to experience ice skating, without knowing how and having groomed ice to fall upon.

Wallace enjoyed hunting and fishing. He would take the kids fishing but they would end up in the water making too much noise and Wallace would just end up pretending to fish while the kids played. He was a protector of his family. If their car broke down he would be there to help fix it. If their water pipe busted, he would come right over to take care of it. After retirement and living in Hominy, he enjoyed going to the casinos, and getting into poker games, as well as a competitive game of dominoes. Wallace loved his kids, grandkids, siblings, and parents. He will be missed by all.

Wallace is survived by his children Crystal Wilcox, Scott Wilcox, and Joy Vincent; his siblings Lahoma Jackson, June Keeling, Jerra Lucas and Wayne Wilcox; his grandchildren Justin, Lukas, and Connor as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Clay and Ethel Wilcox, and his brother David Wilcox.

Services for Wallace will be 2:00pm, Saturday, May 6, 2024 at the pavilion in A J Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma. Arrangements are handled by Powell Funeral Service in Hominy, Oklahoma
