William Elvin Carter
William Elvin Carter, 68 years, long-time resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. John Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
William was born in Hominy on May 25, 1949 to Louis and Juanita (Clapper) Carter and graduated from Hominy High School in 1968. He entered the US Army in 1973 and spent 11 years active and 4 years in the Army Reserve, ultimately achieving Staff Sergeant and at one point was the NCO in 503rd Infantry Battalion 101st Airborne Company B. While in the military he also worked as a Hercules Fire Control Crewman and an Aircraft Pneudraulics Repairman. William received the following medals and commendations while serving his country: Army Service Ribbon, (3) Good Conduct Medals, (2) NCO Professional Development Ribbons, Expert Badge M16 Rifle, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Campaign Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
William is survived by his son: Donell Ray Carter; 4 siblings: Janie Varnell of Cleveland, OK, Mary Carter of Hominy, OK, Steven Carter and his wife, Kim, of Wynona, OK and Keith Carter and his wife, Carla, of Hominy, OK.
William is preceded in death by: his daughter, Amanda Louise Carter and his parents.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018, at 10:00AM, at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, with a Military Service conducted by VFW 5th District Rifle Squad.
